Reach In
If you have read what Islands of Coherence has published and want to be in conversation with the curator, this is the surface for that.
There is no application. There is no qualification. There is no gating mechanism that determines whether your reach-in counts.
The single ask: a short, plain-text message that says what island you're on, and what made you reach in. That is enough.
What happens when you reach in
A short message goes to Gustaf directly. He reads everything that comes in. He does not always reply. When he does reply, the reply is in plain text, not from a templated sequence.
If a conversation follows, it follows. If it doesn't, it doesn't. The commons does not turn reach-ins into a pipeline. There is no nurture sequence, no follow-up cadence, no "we'll be in touch."
What you might write
- I've been working in [cluster] for [time], and what you have written about [thing] matches something I've been seeing too.
- I think your reading of [a relation] is wrong, and here is why.
- I run [an organization / project / publication] that you have not mapped, and I want you to know about it.
- I want to fork the substrate in [direction] and want to know what you think.
- I'm not sure why I'm reaching in. Something about this feels like it matches my work and I don't know how yet.
All of these are valid. None of them needs to be longer than a paragraph or two.
What you don't need to write
- A pitch
- A consulting request
- A request for credentials or affiliation
- An apology for "bothering you"
- A long preamble about who you are
The commons is not extracting from your message. The single ask is to be plain.
How to reach in
[Email link / contact form goes here.]
If you would prefer to reach in through someone you already know who is in conversation with the curator, that is fine. The map is also a referral surface.
Reach-ins are private. They are not published, not analyzed, not aggregated. The Sea-Friends page only includes people who have explicitly agreed to be named there.
